Start Off Right With WordPress
Start Off Right With WordPress
When installing Wordpress to create your new site, there are a few settings and plugins that you should take into consideration. These settings and plugins are generic ways to enhance your website, so using them by default on every Wordpress site you create is the wise decision.

1. Wordpress Database Backup

Remember that the most important things about your site are its files and its database. Wordpress Database Backup is an invaluable plugin that allows you to easily backup your MySQL database via the server, email, or locally. All you have to do is go to Tools > Backup, and you can do just that. It even has an option to periodically email yourself a database backup.

5 Reasons To Backup Your Website
5 Reasons To Backup Your Website
1. Server File Loss

There are two elements in a standard WordPress site, as well as many other CMS platforms, that need to be backed up on a regular basis - the website's files and the website's database.

No one server is completely reliable. Data can easily be lost by corruption, mistakes, or hacking. To ensure this doesn't happen, you should have your website's files backed up either locally or on some server in a cloud, but the point is somewhere different than where the files sit.

The files of the website that can be accessed via and FTP program like Transmit or Cyberduck or FireFTP include the Javascript, PHP, CSS, HTML, movies, images and other types of media.

2. Database File Loss

The other element that functions more behind the scenes is the WordPress MySQL database. This is the element that is commonly overlooks because it is not visible from an FTP browser.

This is where a great plugin for your Wordpress website plays a very valuable role. While there is a wide variety of backup plugins available at no charge for the Wordpress CMS, I have found one in particular to be very simple and functional. It is called WP-DB-Backup. Its alternative full name once installed is Wordpress Database Backup.

5 Reasons America Doesn’t Need SOPA
5 Reasons America Doesn’t Need SOPA
1. The Internet Is Not American

As much as a lot of Americans would like to think the Internet is an American institution, it is far from it. It is a product of the world. In fact, censoring and controlling something like the Internet with a bill like SOPA would have been the most un-American thing we could do to our citizens as a nation that boasts of free speech.

2. Start-Ups Would Take A Hit

SOPA would have made it impossible to advertise or conduct business with any website that infringes on the bill's guidelines. This creates a massive barrier for start-up businesses and established businesses alike.
